Here are 15 interesting facts about France that I just found out by browsing the internet.

1 – France is the most visited country in the world with (somewhere from 70 million according to one site up to) 83 million visitors every year.

2 – 77 million people speak French as their first language.

3 – It was voted best country in the world to live for five years in a row by International Living Magazine.

4 – In 1386, a pig was hanged in France for the murder of a child.

5 – There are more than 350 varieties of cheese in France, some say that there are 365, one for each day of the year.

6 – 82% of France is taken up by forest and farmland.

7 – France has more kilometres of road than any other country in the EU

8 – 38% of people in France own a dog.

9 – France is the world’s largest net exporter of electricity.

10 – French women have the highest life expectancy in the EU.

11 – The national flower of France is the iris.

12 – April Fool’s Day is believed to have originated in France.

13 – A mouse, rather than a fairy, collect’s the milk teeth from underneath children’s pillows in France.

14 – In France if you get special dispensation from the President it is possible to marry someone who is already dead.

15 – There are estimated to be 3900 museums in France, as compared to 2500 museums in the UK.

We are thinking of moving to France – we being me and my husband, our two children, and my mother-in-law (and two dogs). The current plan is that we’ll spend the next year plotting and planning and if everything goes well we will make the move in the summer of 2015. I plan to document the whole process so that I can look back in three years’ time and marvel at how well it all panned out! If, however, it proves a fated endeavour then my comprehensive blog will no doubt be snapped up by some Hollywood director for untold millions – it’s pretty much a win-win situation, right?
